I was out this evening, unsuccessfully calling coyotes, in a snow storm. I noticed that my flash hider was full of snow. I was thinking that I must have planted the muzzle in the snow, was glad I noticed it and cleared the snow out. Sat awhile, being extra carful not to dip my muzzle into the snow again, when I noticed that the FH was filling up again. Seems as though my flash hider is a snow magnet! Cleared it again and sat with my gloved hand around the FH, didn't get any more snow into it. I'm thinking that a sandwich bag around the muzzle might be my best field expedient fix in the future. Anyone else have a more graceful solution to this problem? I wasn't in one of my usual hides today and was more exposed than usual. I've never had my FH collect snow like this before, and I've been out in stronger storms than this before. Any ideas?
Thanks! |

You were probably facing in exactly the right direction for the wind. I've had dirt, leaves, tree branches and yes, mystery snow show up in muzzles and scare the crap out of me.
Caught a shotgun muzzle in a willow branch once and blew flaming debris all over my father (Standing behind me and to my left)
The "shoot off" muzzle caps cost like $1.00 and are worth every penny. |

OK, I'll leave it alone, but it was funny. Here they are and it might save an embarrassing moment at the pharmacy asking the hot clerk for finger condoms.
