Relying on optics too much?
The first thing i did when i bought my AR was get a scope. Now i can shoot decent groups with it when i have a bipod and take my time. But im talking about off hand, sitting at a bench with nothing but you and your rifle. I got a MBUS finally and it was the first time i used my irons, and i was able to shoot a couple 2-3" groups with silver bear at 100 yards, under the same circumstances with an scope i did worse. Moral of the story, get irons first, optics later. |

I actually found the AR platform a little difficult to get familiar with, so I've left optic off for a 'while' until I get more comfortable with it. So far I'm at 2 1/2 years and 3,500 rounds and I think I'm about to where I'm ready to stick an optic on it. Probably the Burris XTR.
I think running the iron sights teaches a lot of good habits for body position and shooting methods. |
