So, what do you guys think of a straight box mag for the ar-15. Specifically a 30 round box mag.
Is it possible? Would you prefer them over the regular mags? If there are some out there, what do you think of them? |

The reason the 30 is curved is the OAL I agree with you about the OAL, but me being me. What about performance? Is it more durable? Is it easier to handle? Buy a bullet button and top load it. It's a PITA, just ask the cali guys who end up stuck with fixed mags. |

The original AR15 magazine was a twenty-five round straight walled magazine.
It displayed reliability problems and was dropped in favor of the shorter twenty round magazine. When the thirty round magazine was introduced, it was originally introduced with a full curved profile, and only changed to the "modern" straight/curved hybrid because of tolerance stacking issues that prevented the "full curve" magazines from consistently seating in all receivers. Nowadays, almost every polymer magazine manufacturer is advertising their "constant curve internal geometry" like it's some new concept... A thirty round straight magazine would exacerbate all the problems of the twenty-five rounder and be a developmental step backwards. Could you do it... I'm sure you could get a prototype to function... But it would be nothing more than an exercise in futility, which while fun as a one off for you to do as a tinkering project, is usually considered a poor business model. ~Augee |

I did not know they actually did a single-stack 25 round mag. Specifically, what I am looking for, are double stack 30 round box mags. Just like the USGI Mags but straight. |
