And has anyone taken or added weight to the buffer to get any effect? The one i have has 3 weights. I removed 1 of them to see if it would help with cycling of crap wolf ammo. Shawn |

Human experience is similar. In the past, using Wolf ammo, I had to use a lighter buffer. Recently, Wolf has been running very hot. Seemingly as hot as my M193. I've used a Wolffe xtra power action spring or heavier buffer, or both. It takes a little patience to find just the right combo. The standard rifle buffer is 5.15 oz - which works fine for full auto in both 223/556 and 9mm using any barrel length My Modified Rifle Buffer 6.4 oz.Rifle - I run a rifle stock assembly and increased the weight by opening the buffer and removing the last metal insert (which is hollow) and in its place adding a rubber spacer and 2 weights behind it taken from a spare buffer. The weight is increased from 5.15 oz to 6.4 oz. All of my rifle buffers are modified to 6.4 oz. and run great. smooth cycling It has been suggested here to get a heavier buffer: dump the guts from the buffer, machine a brass dowel to fit inside to obtain a target weight of 7 oz Don't pack the weights too tightly as they are supposed to slide back and forth a bit to delay the return stroke of the bolt carrier. Counterpoise / MGI buffer is 7.4 oz (machinegun cyclic reducer / buffer) I've used this in 14.5, 16, 18 and 20" 9mm Buffer - 5.5 oz, steel copy of the 2.9 oz CAR (no need for it if doing 9mm with rifle tube/stock (unlike RRA claims) I use it in 5.56 which are 14.5", but not the 16" H3 - 5.6 oz H2 - 4.7 oz H - 3.77 oz CAR style buffer, for CAR tube/stock, typically found/used in full auto short barrel applications to control added rate of fire with shorter barrel/gas tube set-up (M4, 11.5", 10.5"). The 5.5 oz "9mm" buffer is abetter choice to control "bolt-carrier bounce" CAR (standard) - 2.9 oz, Don't use FatBoy gas tubes on a 14.5 or 16" semi-auto car, as they invariably cause short stroking. My .02 from my search for the perfect spring and buffer combo. |
