| Are aluminum swivel sockets as those machined into Aero Precision enhanced handguards secure for swivels with ball type release, or should an M Lok steel swivel adapter be used? |

I’ve worn a couple out over the years. I don’t remember how many rounds it was on my BCM made Cloud rail, but it was between 5000-7000 before it egged out. I think it still held but only popped out when I was slinging up. Attached File |

Well just to tell you the URGI uppers the military has is still the aluminum sockets but geissele has recently started shipping them to civilians with steel inserts. However they're claiming that their aluminium one will work and is rock hard sturdy. Even more so LMT is shipping their Estonian rifle with the one piece mono upper/rail with the aluminum socket and the sling itself is the vickers sling. With that said, there's limited data on QD sockets and tests that they conduct. Me personally I'm using steel Magpul ones on both UBR stock and the front rails. I'm using the Magpul heavy duty qd swivels too. I have not had a failure yet with them coming loose. |

I've been using one on an MI rail a year and it's held up fine. It's on a lightweight SBR too so not as much stress as a heavier rifle. I don't trust them long term or for hard use though. I would prefer if manufacturers just stopped putting QD sockets on rails though. Let us use the Mlok spaces to put steel QD sockets exactly where we want them. Absolutely hate the location of the QD sockets on Geissele rails. BCM has blem QD sockets right now for $13. Also blem QD endplates for $11.
