I bought a new Olympic AR last week and when I tried to clean the barrel I found that it was full of black crap...took it back to the dealer and ordered a Bushmaster...now I am reading here that some people are having problems with their Bushmasters..... So did I make a bad choice in choosing the Bushmaster?? Several years ago they were considered top of the line... Has their quality gone to pot or are there so many more of them out there that the inevitable number of manufacturing defects is catching up with them....??? |
| Well I HAD one and had to send it back to fix the canted FSB, I know another guy who has one and also sent it in for something else (forgot what), I would spend a little more on an LMT personally. That said, I don't think they're bad guns, just not the finest AR on the market. |
You will be happy. |

I bought the basic A3 model with the idea of getting a varmint style upper later. What I have been reading here seems to indicate that there are a lot more problems with the uppers than the lowers. Is that what you folks are seeing??? If the lower is OK, I could sell the upper and add a varmint upper but if there are problems with both, I may just sell the rifle and get something else....the reason I would consider selling and starting over is that dealer gave me a very good discount on the Bushmaster because I buy lots of stuff from him and the problem I had with the Olympic rifle.. |
holy shit! i just posted this in another AR dimension but it fits here too......

I work for a medium sized County Sheriff's Office and all of us in the patrol division are issued a Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine in the M4A3 configuration. We've had the rifles a bit over a year and I have heard of zero issues with any of them whether on the range or in the field. I liked mine so much, that I went to the same police supply store that my agency purchased the rifles from, and bought the exact same model for my own personal use. It is my go-to gun, and I have had no problems with it whatsoever. My guess is that either some of the internet folks like to stretch the truth a bit... Or, they put a lot more rounds down range than those of us who get free ammo to use through our employers. I spend a lot of time on the range (as would any gun-nut that doesn't pay for the ammo out of pocket), so I can only imagine that those folks must live behind the trigger, or shoot competitively for a living. At any rate... I feel that Bushmaster is good to go. I trust my life to mine daily both at home and at work. I'm sure you will be pleased with your decision. |
I also have a Bushmaster Patrolman's carbine. I mostly use mine for coyote hunting or jsut to show off to some friends and have never had any problems with it. One day it did keep jamming but one squirt of rem oil and it hasn't had any problems in four months. I am considering buying the predator upper for a better predator hunting rifle. Anyone have a better suggestion for an avid coyote hunter in the midwest!? |
