| Anyone here assembled an arfcom billet lower and want to explain the process of the bolt release? |
|
Should be the exact same process as assembling a newer Mega billet lower - I don't know if Mega has those instructions online, but I got a set with the lower I received. I picked up my ARFCOM billet lower as a complete, so I didn't have to assemble it, but it's the exact same principle as the Mega.
Put up a pic of the parts you received, and I can tell you the Mega process, based on what parts go in, in what order. |
|
I'll try and get pics up tomorrow. The parts I have are ambi bolt release, long plunger, and spring.
First I installed ambi release. Then put spring on other side with long plunger then bolt release/hold open like any other upper. With that configuration I couldn't use the ambi release. I figured maybe the long plunger goes in first then spring and regular plunger. With that the bolt hold open wouldn't go up far enough to hold open the bolt. So now I'm stumped. |

That's it, right there. Ambi bolt release should already be in place, on the right side of the lower. From the left side, when you're assembling the bolt catch, first in should be the long plunger - should just be a long, straight pin, same diameter all the way down. It is on the Mega, but I haven't taken my ARF apart to find out. So, that long pin, and it has to fit down in it's internal hole, inside the spring hole. Next in is the spring, then the standard plunger, then pin the bolt catch in place - should say "screw" the bolt catch in place, with that tiny allen bolt. That's how it should go together. If that procedure won't allow the bolt catch to lock open - not enough inward travel on the bottom of it - then you'll need to start filing something to get that travel. The easiest thing would be the longer pin, but maybe the smartest thing would be the backside of the bolt catch, where the standard plunger contacts it - you can get those anywhere. |

Bolt catch plunger - spring - supplied bolt catch plunger - bolt catch Just FYI, the lever on the right side of the lower is a release only. You can't catch the bolt with it to hold it open. You have to use the bolt catch as you normally would. Yea. I've tried this and with the set up you have mentioned, the bolt won't hold open. I can manually push the button to hold open the bolt, but once I let it go the bolt slams home. I compared it to another lower and you can see that the bolt catch goes in more on the other lowers. I guess I'm going to have to do some sanding on the plunger. |
