New to forum and looking for some help. I'm trying to give my Armalite national match A2 a facelift and swap in a flattop upper.  When armalite advertised some blems for $85 I jumped on it.  Question I have is basically how do you deal with the free float sleeve to remove the barrel so I can swap it over to the new upper?

Standard barrel nut wrenches won't fit (diameter of float tube is too large).  I've also seen a "free float tube" wrench, but it only has two pins and no provisions for a torque wrench (and I'm nervous if even that wrench will slip over tube).  Is the idea to remove the tube first (using strap wrench?) then go after barrel nut with "regular" wrench?  If float tube needs to be turned off first, I'm assuming the FSB will also have to come off first so sleeve can be slid off end of barrel?  At this point I've got the gas tube pulled, but I haven't done anything beyond that.

Any help from some pro's familiar with the DCM style sleeves would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to keep the original float tube setup on the new receiver so I can keep it DCM legal by adding a detachable carry handle (or swapping back to original carry handle).

Thanks,
Grinch
