I just got this 22lr Conversion unit in a trade.  I'll use it in my retro AR15A1 and an M4 carbine.

Is this the same as the M261 conversion unit I've seen mentioned on this board?  I used one of the miltary conversion units 30 years ago, but I remember them having inserts that went into standard magazines.  All these magazines are dedicated.

Also the Military Armament Corp logo looks like the old Cobray logo.  Same Company?

Thanks
Mark

This is NOT compatible with M-261 mags, nor with BDM/Atchisson mags.

Due to clearance issues and the placement of the ejector, you are limited to the original MAC/Atchisson or Ciener mags.

Often, the buffer in the back of this unit is deteriorated and must be replaced with whatever chunk of rubber or urethane you can fit. This prevents the bolt from recoiling so far back that it traps the hammer, reqiuring opening the upper on the lower. Often happens when charging. No problem if the buffer is intact, though.

I believe it's the same MAC.

Re: SpecOps comments below, to work, BDMs Ciener style mags need so much material removed from the lips that they won't last long, if they survive the surgery.

The Unit itself appears to be an Early Atchisson (Prior To Any Updating), can't see it too well in the picture. The magazines look very-very Atchisson/Ciener, 1 30 rounder especially. BDM Ciener Style Mags may work with some mod, but can't guarranty that. Depends on what updates Ciener did to the Bolt Assy. Way Cool...............

Oops: Update from above BDM Mags won't work with the feed lips too thin.

One in the same.

What date is in the manual?

This is my Atchisson unit. It used to run good until the firing pin broke.
I can't find parts for it anywhere.

.....And this is the rifle I (used to shoot it in).

I hope yours runs forever, at least you have a few extra mags for it.
Good luck.
