| Alright, so I'm building a couple rifles and I want the standard FSB, but I'm not really comfortable drilling the taper holes. Has anyone had any luck tapping the taper pin holes on the FSB and using set screws to hold it in place? I was thinking I could do this, go to the range, make sure it's lined up and then add dimples to the barrel to hold the set screws in place more permanently. Does my logic seem sound or is there a better way to do it. Thanks. |

If you can find one of these it would be much easier for you and the end result would be better as well. http://www.riflegear.com/p-927-armalite-a2-front-sight-clamp-on-w-screws.aspx |

yeah, but those aren't available and wouldn't that need to be pinned as well? Like I said, you'll have to search around for them. No, it doesn't have to be pinned. That's the point. A set screw or clamp-on FSB will never compete with a taper pinned FSB for strength. OK for a hobby gun, not OK for a patrol rifle. |

This is not a clamp-on, it's a set screw type designed for competition Service Rifles. To be correctly installed, 4 "flats" are milled into the barrel for the set screws to bump up against. The rear sight is then set to "mechanical zero", then windage is dialed in with the front sight and locked down. Many of these are "Bubba" installed with no flats. YMMV |
