I have been looking at my BCG and my rifle is a mash up of A1 style parts and A2. Its all new, I guess it came this way. I got it in a trade and am looking at upgrading. I have a bolt coming that is for 5.45x39 and I was wondering what sort of carrier I had so I have been looking around and mine has a very very short part at the back on the bottom and the firing pin is exposed. So I thing I just want to get an M16 mil-spec at this point but dont want to spend a ton. So I found this for a good price but I am curious about the octagonal cuts and if anyone's heard of the company or is using one ect...

I got one of these if you are looking for a no frills full auto profile.
I believe it is free shipping.http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XAIMBCGBDG&name=AIM+AR%2fM16+.223%2f5.56+9310+MPI+BDG+Bolt+Carrier+Group&groupid=714 |

I would just get a Stag M16 carrier for $70, it will serve you well.
http://www.stagarms.com/bolt-carrier-with-key-only/ I have heard of Lord Of War but have never used their products. IMO, the NIB coating and octagonal cuts are just cosmetic. If you like the looks, get one. |

For going into a "mash up" parts gun, I would think something like the AIM would be sufficient.
If it might go in something else later, like a Stag or maybe a Brownells? No experience with either. Might want to check out RRA... pretty sure BCM sells some of the same parts as RRA. Not that BCM doesn't have their own line I guess, but other generic parts they found as worthy also sold there. |

By mash up what I mean is I got a DPMS as it came from the factory it has an A1 carry handle upper, a 20 inch barrel without threads and A2 everything else.
What I am doing is building myself a 5.45 upper to pretty much replace my 5.56 upper. I have researched a bit and found the bolt the hardest part to find so I ordered that first then in a couple more paychecks I'll get the barrel and melonite as tube and gas block, then a flat top upper and new forearm. Its a project in progress. Just wondering about a replacement bolt carrier for the future. |
