When putting the BCG together with an upper do you have to have same brand or can you mix and match any type?

no,try the M16 BCG from Bravo for $130.00 best bang for the buck on a BCG.

so if it is a m16 bolt it will still work for a 5.56??

provided the bolt face is for a 5.56 then yes (which all M16s tend to be)
