Looking to pick up a new BCG to wear along with a new barrel. Saw some debate over chrome lined BCGs but wasn't sure if they are beneficiary or not.
RRA Chrome BCG: http://www.eaglearmory.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=22_51&products_id=273 BCM BCG: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-Bolt-Carrier-Group-MPI-Auto-M16-p/bcm%20bolt%20carrier%20group%20auto%20mp.htm Just included these two because I know the BCM is quality, and they are about the same price...thoughts? |

this question has been asked quite a few times lately.
Ill give you my 2 cents. A chrome BCG is going to make cleaning easier. thats it. If you happen to find one at a GREAT price... sure why not. but in my opinion the ONLY BCG coating worth the extra cost is the Fail Zero NiB coated ones. Fail Zero Spikes Enhanced BCG Also... i would take a standard phosphated one from BCM over a Chrome RRA any day of the week. No contest. |

There is a difference between a chrome lined BCG and a chrome BCG. The BCM carrier is chrome lined where the bolt slide in. The carrier key is also chrome lined. This is a good thing. The other carrier is chrome everywhere. This is not needed and will provide little to no benifit.
I'd much rather have a qulaity BCG built to the specs that BCM or Colt use than some brand X BCG with a gimmick finish on it. |

are you inferring that RRA is not built to specs and the that chrome finish is a gimmick? The RRA BCG is not manufactured to the same spec as a BCM or a Colt. I'll leave it up to the end user to decide what finish is a gimmick or what finish actually provides an improvement in function or reliability. But there are plenty of things floating around of unknown quality that people will buy because of the new "magic" finish on them. |
