BCG coming tomorrow. What do I need to do to it before using? What parts need oiled?

Oil the bolt circumference and lugs, but not the bolt face.

Oil the cam pin.

Oil the 4 rails on each side of the carrier.

Go shoot it

I always take it apart and give it a good scrubbing with CLP and a tooth brush, wipe clean. Then I reassemble it, spray the whole thing down with CLP, flick my wrist a few times to get the real excess CLP off, wipe the face and commence to shootin'. This method hasn't let me down in 35+ years.

This. No such thing as too much oil. It will just end up on your glasses. Lube that bitch up and shoot.

The last BCG I bought came covered in some sticky preservative. If it's coated in something, get it all off before you lube.

Yup. I've had a good handful of bcgs that had packing grease or some type of preservative, I disassemble and wipe down everything with 91% alcohol, then just lube with CLP and reassemble

The last PSA BCG that I bought was actually pretty clean, very little cleaning I had to do on it, I just took it apart, put it in a ziplock and sprayed the heck out of it with CLP and let sit in the sealed bag for a few hours, took out, wiped off the bolt face, and let it drip for a small amount of time and installed it, works great.

I follow this handy manual for my "M16A1 Zap Machine". The pretty ladies and hip slang keep my attention.

New BCG wise, I think the others have covered it well. make sure you get off any preservative gunk and then lube it "generously".
My last BCG, a PSA premium, was incredibly dry. They said it would ship dry, but this was beyond my expectation of dryness

Everybody that says to oil the crap out of it is right.  But only ONE person said (VERY correctly) that you need to CLEAN the crap out of it first.  New parts come with protective coatings, NOT gun lube; clean the protective coating off, THEN oil the crap out of it.

When I say "clean the crap out of it," I don't mean wipe it down with Hoppes' #9.  INeXile556 suggests scrubbing it with CLP.  I'll go further: I take the BCG apart and soak the parts in Slick 2000's 725 Degreaser, scrubbing with an old toothbrush, then I rinse it off with 91% rubbing alcohol.  The rinse removes remnants of the cleaning product and any accumulated gunk that was loosened but not completely removed.  THEN I "oil the crap out of it."  Run that new BCG very wet for a while.

Alright...took it apart cleaned it and oiled it. Put it back together and can't get the pin back in all the way. It fit fit very tight going back in and it won't go back through the hole on the other side.

Try pinching it and spinning while pushing at the same time. You ever have a car key or house key that needs to be jiggled just right? Kinda the same thing.

I'll have to find some pliers to twist it. I couldn't even push it through the first hole. Had to tap it through

As usual with new parts, first step is to field strip and thoroughly clean. Then I like to sand the exterior contact surfaces on the carrier with fine sandpaper, 350 to 800 grit.  These are the four rails that contact the inside of the receiver and the ramp that contacts the nose of the hammer.  Finally, I apply lube (Slip 2000 or Mobil 1 10W30) generously to the inside of the carrier and lightly to its external contact surfaces, plus the bolt lugs.

Make sure the bolt and its gas rings have sufficient tension inside the carrier.  If more lube is needed between cleanings, it can easily be applied through the two little holes in the carrier visible through the ejection port.  After every shooting session I remove the BCG in order to clean the bore and chamber.  I wipe it down and reapply lube.  I only field strip the BCG every 4th or 5th shooting session. good luck - CW
