Is it normal that the BCM BCG that I just got in the mail isn't centered in the upper?  See below:

BCM BCG Misaligned:

A wide angle lens introduces distortion that isn't there in real life making it very difficult to judge what you have on hand.

How does it cycle?

I have never had an upper receiver that held the BCG straight. There was always enough movement that would allow an "apparent' misalignment. I think everything is just fine with that upper.

I haven't fired it yet.  Still waiting for some parts to arrive.

I'm not sure why it doesn't seem clear, but you can see the space around the BCG (black area) in both pictures.  The point I was trying to illustrate is that the BCG I have in my other rifle sits perfectly in the center of the upper and has no real chance of rubbing in places that it shouldn't.  I tried both BCG's in both rifles with the same results in each, so I know it's not the upper that's causing my concern.

The BCM BCG is a lot closer (maybe touching) in the 7 o'clock area.  Since it seems to be offset in the opposite direction of the extractor, could it have anything to do with the "stronger" bolt construction of the BCM?

Its locking up tight.  Mine do that too, all of them.  No worries.

Your pictures are shot from a wide angle which induces distortion, and they are not from the same viewpoint meaning I can't tell what is or isn't going on.

You also didn't answer how the weapon cycles (you can cycle it by hand), which makes being able to diagnose anything pretty much impossible at this point. Have you done a function check?  We can only guess without more info, but that isn't helping you at all.

Regarding your comment of the BCM being stronger, I have no idea what you mean with that part.  The BCM BCGs are milspec.

I'm pretty sure when there's a round in the chamber the bolt itself wont have any play in it.

Doesn't really matter where the carrier is sitting in the upper, as long as it doesn't hang up on the buffer tube.

Like was said earlier, have you tried hand cycling it? I'll bet I runs just fine.

normal, you are looking for a problem where there isnt one

Yup. All the carrier does is move back and forth, and hold all the goodies together. The rifle in the pics above shoots fine, and yours will too.

It hand cycles fine and functions normally, from what I can tell.

When I say the BCM BCG is "stronger," I mean the spring tension and overall build quality is better, higher, whatever, than my other BCG that has had who knows how many rounds through it.  That probably has nothing to do with it, I was just asking.  I'm not an expert on any of this, which is why I may be asking dumb/irrelevant questions and why I'm also looking for problems that may not be there.  I just wanted to make sure because I don't want to break anything or wear out any parts prematurely because of improper alignment.

So everything is normal then.  Thanks for the help.  I'm going to go work on my photography skills now...

Your question isn't dumb at all, I hope my replies didn't insinuate that. When it comes to firearms, it is much better to ask a question, than to pull the trigger on something which has even a little possibility of being unsafe.

In the case of this, cycling the weapon answers the question for us as the other guys have already noted.
