Okay all you zillions of BHD freeks.... what kind of mounts/rings were the SF guys
using in the movie, and were they accurate to the time period ??    I'm trying to
mimic this setup to a certain degree, and came up with a ARMS carry handle mount
and some alum. verticle split rings of unknown manufacture.  Looks good but the
optic sits too high off the mount, like about 5/8".   Needless to say, this is all
sitting on an A2 upper.   What's the skinny for this ???   Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Actual period set-up.

Carbines from the movie.

My 723 clone carbine, at one time set up in a more modern, but similar configuration.

In that first picture...
What's with his handguards?
Can you do that with an AR15?

That question comes up every time I post that pic!

There’s a lot of speculation as to “why”. I’m not quite sure the reasoning behind it.

Koolness!! Now what mount is that holding your M2 onto the ARMS mount?  Looks
really low, which is exactly what I'm after. Thanks !

You could go with this one link

And this is a low mount without the carry handle rail link
