Hi guys, Im currently finishing up a build, happy to say everything is here and the only thing inbound is the barrel . Now this rifle will strictly be for CQB/SHTF the maximum range that I will use it for would be probably 100 yards or less. I've decided to purchase a Aimpoint Micro T-1, and I was in the process of picking out a BUIS for a co-witness/ for that scenario should anything happen to the optic and im a little stumped. While reviewing and reading a lot of information and picking out the sights i noticed that a lot don't have the elevation knob, so my questions are and they are strictly hypothetical, but i always like to be prepared.

1. Without an Elevation knob engaging targets at about 300 yards and farther would kinda be extremely hard right?

2. Which type of BUIS would you guys, who have ran optics w/ irons recommend, and would they be flip up or fixed.

3. I've been closely looking at the LMT fixed BUIS, and the C4 Diopter HK Style Iron Sight, could i get a few opinions on what you guys think of them, thank you

I like the Larue fixed behind my Aimpoint.

Remember, it's a BUIS (Back Up Iron Sight) not a Palma match sight. Adjust elevation with the front and windage with the rear. With 5.56 and a 50 yard zero you'll be within +- 2" POI-POA out to 250 yards. Out to 300 you have to hold slightly high, with 5.56 hold at the base of the throat to hit center mass.

I really doubt most people can see a person wearing drab clothing at 250 yards.

My replies to your questions:

1. Elevation knobs are really not needed when shooting under 300 or 100 yds., just zero your weapon at 50 yds. by adjusting your front sight, it will be under 2" high at 100 yds. and it will hit zero again at 200 yds.

Note: See the Revised Improved Battlesight Zero thread link below for detailed info and ballistic charts.

2. Some guys prefer flip up and some fixed, you might have to try them both ways, some gets bothered with the fixed BUIS blocking their field of view.

I use Troy folding BUIS but when I shoot they're already flipped up so I don't loose time if something happened to my optic.

3. I have the LMT fixed BUIS and I also used to have the real HK sight on my former HK94 carbine, they're both too bulky for me

If I would get a fixed rear sight again I would get the LaRue (same plane version) BUIS, no elevation adjustment required and the windage adjustment are shrouded and won't get accidentally changed same as the Troy, simpler is actually better.

1.  No, not if you practice.  Plus, it is a BUIS, so you don't need to hit baseballs at 500 yds with it.

2.  I run a LaRue BUIS behind my Aimpoint ML3, and a Troy under my scope on another AR.  Just depends on what you prefer.

3.  I think the LMT BUIS is bulky for what it is, but quality made and if you just have to have elevation that is probably the way to go.

I have a Magpul MBUS on the way and I have a feeling that will probably work pretty good behind a scope, but the jury is still out on how well they hold up and how good they are since they just hit the market.

There are basically only two I'd consider for a SHTF/HD gun, and that is LaRue and Troy.  Others are good/okay, but those two are the top of the heap for fixed or folding.
