Recently purchases a Daniel Defense rifle, sans sights. Will mount an Aimpoint Pro but not sure about the BUIS. I was thinking about the DD fixed sights. Would appreciate some feedback on fix vs. flip up type sights. Thanks,

I prefer flip front and back to keep sight picture clean and unobstructed.  That being said I'm not opposed to a fixed front (A2) and flip rear since I can look past the front and not really notice it.  I've never liked a fixed rear but that could just be me.

Flip, for sure.

I have the metal magpul MBUS on my DDM4.

Will it be absolute co-witness or lower 1/3?  For a non-magnified optic, I don't see a point in flip-up sights, especially if your aimpoint will be lower 1/3.

However, I am the patron saint of contradiction.  I have magpul MBUS gen 2's with my aimpoint pro in a 1/3 lower co-witness.  Bottom line.  Get what you want, but buy quality.

I use only fixed sights with aimpoints mostly in case when I raise the rifle the dot is adjusted too low.

My thinking was to use a lower 1/3 co-witness. I agree about buying quality and I've been looking at the Magpul sights. I also like (flame suit on), Troy's sights.

I have the Swan marked polymer sights and they work though I'd just as soon not have the notch in them.
I also like that the center of the larger aperature is set up for a shorter range while smaller ap. is set for longer range.
A rear sight with adjustments for range would be nice to have.

If you go the fixed route, make sure your PRO is sitting on a lower 1/3 mount. If you go with flip ups, I'd get a mount that provides absolute cowitness. As for the DD A1.5 rear fixed sight, it's built like a tank, but doesn't have a same plane aperture. The Troy fixed BUIS, however, do provide a same plane aperture. Personally, I have rifles outfitted with both, but it just depends on your preference and intended purpose. Have you bought your PRO yet? If not, they can be had for $424 from either Larue or American Defense with a mount of your choice, then flip the QRP2 it comes with for like $40 on the EE.

Great advice, thank you. I do have a Pro I moved over from another rifle, just to put some rounds down range in the DD. Waiting for a good price to buy another.

I think I'm leaning towards the flip ups.

Thanks to all for your help.

Aimpoint Pro or T-1 ect I like flip-up sight's, the FOV is already on the small side and even lower 1/3 Co-witness is cluttered to me with the FSP in the view especially with a T-1 size RDS. Now, with my EOTechs and C-mores I like fixed back-up's. With these, the FOV is like looking at a big screen TV so the little bit of FSP is no biggie, if the dot goes down I don't have to do a thing but slightly lower my cheek weld. My EOTech and one C-more use mounts with built in fixed A2's, I have two more C-mores that use DD fixed rears and Sampson HK fronts, love that combo!

I have Troys, and MBUS Pros, but my Daniel Defense fixed sights are my favorite.

No reason at in in 2015 to have fixed iron sights if using a optic. Flip ups for back up; zero them and stow them away for the highly unlikely time you could need them.

Fixed will work. If the sight should die (which is pretty unlikely) just aim through the dead sight. No flipping necessary. If it's not a SD rifle, then I guess the choice of backups doesn't matter much.
