After going through various M4geries, DMR/SPR/Recon replicas, Dissipators, CAR's, etc...I finally found the AR that works best for me.  I had almost gotten burned out on BRD and had sold/traded off all my complete AR's.  I focused my attention on the AK and FAL collection and spent more time on my C&R rifles.  I didn't even visit the AR side of the forum very much over the last year or so.  I still had a "Big Box O'Parts" in the garage, though...

About a month ago, I was cleaning out my gunsafe and found a 20" 1:7" CMMG Gov't profile barrel that I had completely forgotten about.  I dug around in my box and found an old A1 receiver, a charging handle, a gas tube and a set of handguards.  15min later, I had a nice upper sitting on my bench.  I dug around a little more and found a beat up A1 buttstock and a forged Oly lower that has been painted and repainted so many times, the logo is almost illegible.  I picked up an RRA LPK and a bolt/carrier at a gunshow and the rifle was complete.

I had forgotten how nice a 20" gov't profile barrel handles and an afternoon with the A1 sights made me wonder why I ever needed an A2 in the past.  I put 200rds of 69gr Black Hills downrange and the BRD was back.  However, I think this rifle will keep it in check for a while.  It's an ugly franken-rifle and every part has a different finish, but it's damn near perfect for me right now.

DRich, are you aware that you just built yourself a copy of the Canadian Diemaco C7 service rifle?  Here is a link for it:

I've built several go-fast types of rifles and carbines, but I got to feeling nostalgic for my son's build.  So I'm putting together an A2 like the first one I ever had issued for him.
Your rifle looks great.

Nice pics, guys.  I got in the mood for a nostalgia build a few months ago.  Just waiting on a lower half now.

Oh WOW!!!! I didn't know that they made A1 uppers with the case deflector. Are they still available? Ive tried to like the A2 upper, but it looks like the rear sights were an after thought. Your upper is sweet and clean. Nothing wrong with a ground up build like you did.

I know CMMG makes one.  There may be others, as well.

The sling is a standard US military M-16A2 sling from a while ago (Rock Island, small arms sling).  Not sure what is issued these days.  I have had it for a long time...not sure where to find them but I have seen them around from time to time.  I do know that the US Army shooting team still has them on some of their M-16s.  ( I see them shooting at Camp Perry at the matches)
