Can someone tell me what weight bullets, and range you can expect to shoot with these barrel twists. 1:7, 1:8, 1:9. Can you shoot the light weight rounds thru all of them? I want use it for plinking and when I want to shoot a little more accurate. Why is it that Stainless only comes in 1:8

Stainless steel barrels come in other twists other than 1 in 8". I have a stainless in 1 in 7" and another with a 1 in 7.7" twist. One is a Douglas and the other a Kreiger. You can get a stainless in just about any twist you want from 1 in 6.5" to a 1 in 14" and anything in between. I can shoot bullet weights from 52 through 80 grains in both of the twists I have.

Now, the faster twist barrels will also work just fine with the lighter bullets.  If you will ONLY be shooting bullets lighter than 63-gr I would go with the 1:9 twist.  If you are going to play with the 69-gr or heavier bullets I would go with the 1:8 twist....

Note, plenty of Colts HBARs are out there with a 1:7 twist and I know mine shoots great with 55-gr FMJs!  The faster twist will stabalize heavier bullets while the slower twists will not!

As far as stainless barrels, if you have the money, you can find someone to make it in any twist, profile, etc you could ever want!  I keep my barrels in the 1:7, 1:8 and 1:9 twist myself but I don't use mine for hunting.  If you want to shoot thin varmint bullets, the faster twst may cause the bullets to explode in flight....  For this you may want the 1:12 or 1:14 twist barrels... but that is another topic and I have no real experience to share in this area!

I just recently put together an upper with a 20" Olympic Arms SUM barrel.  It is 1:10 twist rate, and really likes the lighter 50 to 52 grains bullets.  Black Hills 52 grains match HP were grouping (5 shots) at 1" to 1.25" at 200 yds. with a 3X Leupold CQT scope!  It didn't like military ball ammo.

Just remember that if you buy a 1-7in twist for 55gr. bullets you will end up burning out the barrel maybe 10-16% sooner and cleaning it for longer.  (the faster the twist, the more fowling you will see),

and on an insignifigant scale the faster twist will heat up faster than slower twist.
