I purchased a 'NIB' Colt R6530 Lightweight Sporter awhile back, and have yet to actually shoot it! Anyway, I am wondering if there is really a right way and a wrong way to break in this barrel? I have seen some reference to this subject within this web site, but using the 'search' feature, I'm not coming up with anything. I would appreciate info regarding this.. Fact or fiction? Approx 1980 I had purchased a new AR-15 SP-1 for approx 350.00. I shot the hell outa that rifle, and could drive tacks with it. If someone had told me that I needed to 'break-in' the barrel, I'd have hit him in the teeth with a beer bottle. I pushed AND pulled the cleaning rod through the barrel. Guess I broke every rule in the book. Still, it was one hell of an accurate rifle. Sold it after 20 + years, thinking I would rather have a SS Mini-14. Stupid. That didn't last long. Sold it and started looking for another Colt, and I think I'm really gonna like this new Sporter! However, I can tell you that it DID cost a little bit more than that old SP1 did. Therefore, I don't want to take any chances. If the gang here tells me to break in the barrel (along with instructions), I'll listen! Thanks Jim |
