This is my first build and after doing alot of debating im needing some insight.

This is the barrel i am looking at
Barrel

For the hand guard im looking at a few different options.

  • SOLO or SOLO lght guards from SLR

  • SSM M-lok series or SSK Key-Lok series from MWI

  • KMR15 from BCM

  • MCSR V2 from Seekins

  • One of the following from Rainer Arms 1 2 3

I know this is a tad controversial but i am looking at getting either 15" or 16.5" handguard on my 18" barrel simply because I like the look.

The issue im having now is what gass block do i need and is it something i can skimp on? (not spend over $50 on)

I know if i buy one from MWI i can get one of their blocks for $15.00 off however i dont think the barrel is dimpled and ill need more of the lamp style blocks correct? If so which block would you recomend?

I've got the SLR Solo Lite. Awesome rail. Very light, very solid. Money well spent.

I've always gone with an inexpensive lo pro block and have never had any issues.

I have 2 SLR hand guards. and they are excellent. both my barrels are not dimpled and I use Spikes setscrew type gas blocks. mainly because they are melonited. and, I like that.

if u didn't buy the upper receiver yet, consider getting the aero precision M4E1 enhanced setup with the receiver and handguard.  Makes the hardest part of building the upper drilling the dimple for the gas block.  I like mine.  I have the seekins as well and will be replacing the upper receiver with the aero since its compatible. Its a  15" with an 18" daniel defense s2w barrel.

For the seekins and maybe some of the other rails make sure you do a test fit with just the barrel and but, to figure out what shims to use so you can line up gas tube hole.

I wouldn't skimp too much on the gas block, some are really loosey goosey before u put it on the barrel.  I bought a Midwest industries gas block with 3 screws, it was nice and snug before I inserted the screws.  It was only $40, and is melonited.

KMR15's are like unicorns...you just don't find them anywhere.

Proud owner of four SLR solos...great rail.

Thanks guys.

I think I'm going to go with the SLR solo 16.5" now key mod or m-lok.

Also I think that block posted above will work fine.
