What are the general velocity differences between a 16" and 18" barrel for 55gr and 77gr ammo? I know that there are tons of other variables to consider to get an EXACT answer (which is not what I'm looking for). I building my first AR (after owning three "store-bought") and want to do it right. If you tell me that the velocity differences between a 16" and an 18" (on either end of the spectrum) are not materially significant, I'll give up the search for a good 18" barrel and go with the 16". My requirements are something relatively light and quick (20" just too long) but which retains enough energy at 400-500m to be an effective round. |
