I've searched, and wasn't real successful. I think I posted in the right forum this time I'm starting to build a 5.56 M4gery, and I have a couple of questions. 1. Real M4s out of the arms room have 14.5" barrels. A normal private buyer can't legally buy one without jumping through hoops--right? 2. Since I probably legally need a 16" barrel. Which quality manufacturer offers assembled M4 uppers whose total barrel length INCLUDING flash suppressor is 16"? For example 15" barrel plus 1" perm attached flash hider=16" barrel length. Something like that. I would prefer to buy from a good company online. Kinda like Del-Ton's store. Don't really want to bother with picking up the phone. I appreciate the help---it's sooooo much easier when some dude in the arms room hands you a weapon already bought and paid for. |

OK. If any of you have something like this: Del-Ton 16" M4 Chrome Lined Barrel Assembly with M4 Handguards and Side Sling Adapter www.del-ton.com/Del_Ton_AR_15_Barrel_Assembly_p/dt2000.htm How long is the barrel including flash hider? |
| You can buy a 14.5" barrel and use it legally provided that you have a flash hider permanently attached that brings the overall length to 16" or greater. I've heard an A2 hider isn't long enough so you'd need a Phantom, Vortex, etc. A 16" barrel with an A2 hider measures roughly 16.5" I think, maybe just under 17". |

I've been looking for the same thing. CMMG is currently at the top of my list. ETA: I'm looking at a 14.5" barrel with the permanent Phantom for a total length of 16". |

Thanks all. Norske, I couldn't link into your page, but the CMMG stuff looks pretty good. Was this the one you were looking at? CMMG 14.5â M4 Upper w/Permanent Hider. It looks/sounds like it fits my description pretty well. As an added bonus it seems to have most of the same features as a regular M4. ETA: Hey I figured out the search and answered this question .I think CMMG might work for me. |

Randall Rausch at AR15barrels.com can permanently attach a flash suppressor for you, and his prices on LMT uppers are the best that I've encountered: ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=22&t=314699&page=1. Either way, good luck, and thank you for your service! |
He's got a decent site, with good barrel profile info for the newby as well. Thanks, and the service is my pleasure/honor . |

I ordered This: CMMG 14.5â M4 A1 SOCOM Upper w/Permanent Hider New 14.5" M4 A1 SOCOM upper w/permanent hider. Permanent hider brings OAL barrel length to legal 16â This upper comes with M4 handguards and is complete with bolt, carrier and charging handle. CMMG semi auto bolt carriers have the shrouded firing pin to protect against hammer wear. Upper receivers are "T" marked and include extended feed ramp cuts. Features include medium contour M4 barrel w/flats for grenade launcher, notched M4 handguard cap, chrome-lined 5.56mm chamber and bore, 1/7 twist, parkerizing under âFâ marked forged front sight base and magnetic particle testing on every barrel. When ordering with optional gas block, barrels will not be drilled for taper pins. Barrel is marked CMMG MPC 5.56 NATO 1/7. I liked the heavier barrel. The only options I picked were the M4 double heat shields(don't need rails now) and the Phantom 5C1 flash hider(looks easier to clean than the 5C2). Thanks for the help, and there is a gun show next week--I'll hopefully be able to find a good lower receiver there. |
