I am in the process of collecting parts for my first AR build. I have already ordered both a Mega upper and lower(unfortunately from two seperate places as they are hard to find right now apparently). Also picked up an RRA LPK w/Hogue grip. I'm pretty set on a LaRue handguard, probably 9". Would like to go with a LT lo-pro gas block as well. Now, I need to pick a barrel. I've been looking at Denny's Operator line, and it seems like a great barrel for what I need. This won't be my precision rig, and won't ever spend the $$$ to accurize this upper past little stuff. In keeping the chrome-lined theme, the Operator would stand up from any abuse I can throw at it. I'm also looking into an LMT barrel assembly from AR15 Barrels. Its about $50 cheaper, but what of accuracy and reliability? I know they are both Rock Creek blanks, is there anything given up going with the cheaper barrel, aside from barrel profile? Regardless, I would prefer 1/7 or 1/8 twist to maintain the ability to shoot the heavier grain loads. Prefer to stay with chrome-lined, because if I go stainless, I will just buy a Sabre Defence fluted SS barrel. This will be my plinking/HD rifle, as well as used for hunting light game from time to time. I appreciate any comments you have, and any suggestions or options I have not listed here. I am pretty new, so that is why I am asking for everyone's input. $350 is about as much as I'd like to spend on a barrel, so lets set the limit there. Thanks a ton! |

I'm a big fan of the mid length gas system, so I would go with the Operator barrel. FWIW, these (Denny's and LMT) are probably the most accurate chrome lined barrels in production, due to the way they're made. I can hold 3MOA or better with a 10.5" LMT at 250 yards and I'm not all that good. |
