| What is the difference between a 5.56 Nato Chamber and a .223 Wylde chamber? Would you need different bolt carriers? |
|
The external dimensions on the .223 Remington and 5.56x45mm cartridge are identical. 5.56 is loaded to higher pressures than .223 though. Because of this the throat on a 5.56 chamber is longer than on a .223. Firing 5.56 in a .223 chamber may cause problems with over pressure. The tighter chamber of the .223 lends itself to better accuracy though. .223 Wylde splits the difference between the two, making it safe to use 5.56 with better potential accuracy than a 5.56 chamber. ETA: No you wouldn't need different bolt carriers.
