I made the mistake of installing a 16 heavy barrel on my AR.  I really don't like what it's done to the balance of the rifle.  Currently I'm considering changing it out for a normal M4 profile barrel, or having it fluted.  Cost will factor into my decision, but I don't want to have to spend more money changing it again.  Does anyone have any feedback regarding fluting a heavy barrel, what does it cost, do you recommend one shop over the other?

Thanks,

send it to ADCO for re-profiling. they can turn it to a Gov't profile, and restore the balance to your rifle. ADCO does top notch work.

Reprofiling saves more weight and is less expensive vs fluting.

I think you would be better off just putting an M4 barrel on it. To do what you are talking about is going to take some cash.

ADCO fluetd my barrel for just over $100 (re-parkerizing included) and I got it back within 2 weeks.  TOP NOTCH and well worth it.  I woudn't bother with a recontour or M4 contour job as you could probably find someone to trade it with on the EE.  Fluted just looks cool me thinks.

Indeed it does!

Thanks Everyone.  The Fluting does look good, but I'll also take a look at re-profiling.  I'm assuming they'll also be able to thread it for a Flash suppressor, is that correct?
