[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Barrel Search

I'm looking for a 10" pencil barrel with a standard AR15/M16 front sight already installed. I want to build a GAU commando type upper. I've done several Google searches and so far either no one has them or they are out of stock.

Probably easier to buy a pencil 14.5" barrel and have it cut down.

I guess you will be cutting the bayonet lug down for a 10" GAU build. I'm not the most familiar with them.

I thought about the idea of cutting down a longer barrel, but I don't have the mechanical skills or equipment to drill the gas holes or the pin holes to hold the sight or the threading of the barrel for the flash suppressor. I don't know of any smiths in my area that do.

I figured it would be easier to find one already made.

Adco can do the work. They're not the cheapest but they do a good job.

Cartridge?

Twist?

Any other preferences such as Chrome lined, CHF, Melonite and so on?

Green Mountain makes a 10" with a 1x7 twist, but it is a barrel only. You'd have to get the FSB and have it pinned. If that barrel is OK for you, it will probably be cheaper than having a longer one cut down.

I looked at ADCO. I may have found one, but it's pretty pricey.

Original 10" barrels are incredibly scarce. I had one for sale in the 90s when I was a gunshow vendor. I have only seen a couple originals since, and those were CRAZY expensive.

5.56 for the cartridge. No preferences other than that. I'm going for looks and short distance (less then 100 yards) recreational shooting. When I get the upper built its going on an SBR lower.
