New user requesting advise
I have a Bushmaster 16" post ban Hbar barrel sitting on a shelf colecting dust. The barrel is off my original Bushmaster purchase and have since had bushmaster install an M4 barrel.
I am interested in starting a new build project and thought I would try and salvage the you know what barrel. This would first call for barrel threading since I may want to install a sound suppresor in the future. I called Bushmaster, but they won't perform the threading because it is out of thier normal processing. Meaning that it is after the chrome lining operation. They said that there is a high probability to crack the chrome lining at the muzzle on the threading setup. They said it could probably be done, but make sure you find a reputable machinist who has done it before and ask alot of questions. So I decided to become a new member and ask the question. Bushmaster of course told me they could sell me a new barrel for $199.00, but I hate to have good stuff laying around collecting dust. Is it worth the effort? Any info would be appreciated....Thank you

ADCO shortened and threaded a .22 conversion barrel for me, it wasn't chrome lined though.  They are in the Toledo area.

Tag for replies on this one...I've been considering having a 16" CL middy barrel I have cut down to 14.7" w/pinned A2 FH for a handy little middy "truck gun". I'd heard (read: rumor) that CL can be destroyed at the cut section and begin cracking...any info on this?

You can't go wrong with Adco. I had them do a barrel for me (threading, contouring, fluted, and bead blasted), and had it back in about a week. It wasn't a chrome lined barrel, though, but if anyone can do it without problems, its Adco.

ETA: Oh, and welcome to the site!

I'd suggest:

LRP
2614 HWY. 61 WEST
ANDERSONVILLE, TN. 37705-1921
865-712-6725

They don't have a website, but their prices, service, and turn around time are the best I've found. They got my 10/22 bull barrel with an AR15 spec'd threading back to me in less than a week and that INCLUDED shipping to them and back to me. The price was 1/2 (or more) the price other places charged. I highly recommend them.
