I just switched my M&P15 to a FF handguard from YHM. When I put the new barrel nut on the rifle, I hand tightened it as it advised in the directions, and then checked to see whether a hole was lined up for the gas tube. It was not, and I tightened to the NEXT hole, which aligned the barrel nut and the gas tube. I know I probably should have used a torque wrench, but I did not because I tightened only to the next hole. It was a good bit of force on the barrel wrench, so I'm pretty sure I made the 50 pound/ft minimum, but I don't know if I might have exceeded the 80 pound/ft maximum. I'm not sure what to do if that is the case, as the previous hole is just finger tight.
Is there any serious problem associated with over-torquing the barrel nut? Should I take the whole thing apart and re-do it with the torque wrench? Thanks in advance for any advise you might have. |
