My first build was done without much time shooting 556, now that I've spent more time with different builds I know more about what I prefer as far as I'm not crazy about  my first rifle. It's a 16" Dennys operator barrel on a LaRue upper with a LaRue 12" hand guard. Im using a Burris 1x4 XTR scope.

I put together two lightweight builds, a 14.5" and a 16" lightweight DD barrels with red dots.  Im shooting some 8" AR500 circle plates at around 100 to 200 yards standing. I hardly use the heavier build, so I'm thinking about putting a new barrel on it. Problem is I don't want to build the same rifle I already have so Ive been looking at some 18" barrels. The one that seems the nicest weight wise is the Noveske.  At 100 to 200 yards without match ammo am I just wasting my time and money on a 18" build and same question on the Noveske?
Yea, IF I didn't live in Ca. it would be a SBR no doubt.

Why not look outside the 5.56 and build some sort of variant (ie, 6.8 spc, 300 BLK). Noveske makes some quality pieces, no doubt, but you're still left with basically the same rifle albeit with a longer barrel. You could build a 6.8 or 300 BLK and still keep the components you have aside from a new barrel and have a whole different beast.

The only difference between your 16" and a 18" is, well, 2". Your not really changing anything aside from increased weight and maybe 60 fps.

Why not keep the barrel and drop that heavy ass stock and handguard for something from the newer generation of lightweight rails and stocks? I've never had nor shot one of those barrels but from what I've read around here they aren't slouches. Is it some heavy profile under the handguard or standard government profile?

If you want to change the barrel just because you want a different one, check out Rainier, ballistic advantage, micro moa for some additional places with nice barrels at non ridiculous pricing.
