Hey guys! New to the forum here. I'm looking to put together a AR15 in the .223. mainly for coyote and varmint hunting. I'm wanting a accurate barrel. My dads buddy has a couple ARs and he likes the krieger barrels a lot. I want to order one for what I exactly want but I have no clue where to start. I like the 16 or 18 inch heavy barrel look but I don't want the gun to be too heavy. I'm trying to figure out what the contours are and what they mean and what is good and what is bad. Maybe if someone has a set up similar to what I'm looking for, they could post some pics and specs on what they have. Any help would be appreciated!

for a lighter varmint hunting gun, an 18" barrel would be a good choice.

Check out the sticky for a link to the picture threads.

Ok thanks. I probably going to be finding better accuracy with the 18" won't I?

Here is another question..how should I determine what rate of twist to go with? Does that depend on the grain of bullet I shoot?

A quality 16" barrel will be just as accurate as an 18".

Velocity will be higher on the longer barrel, so if you plan to take long shots (past 200 yards) you may want the extra length to reduce bullet drop.

Twist is up to you. I shoot heavier 855 and 77 gr Federal Gold Match with my 1:8 barrel.

I'll probably be going with a heavier bullet so I can have some knock down power past 200 yards. Are you getting good groups with that load?
