I'm looking to build my first AR and have been doing a lot of research by reading and talking to many people.  Somewhere along the way I thought I remember hearing that there is a lining for the barrell that is actually more durable than chrome and less expensive too.  Will somebody please confirm if this is true and if so, what the material is that I should be looking for?

Thanks,

Dan

I think you are referring to melonite finishes. It is purportedly harder than chrome. Its actually a surface treatment, not a lining.

Can't remember the name, but CMMG does this to some of their barrels. My 300 BLK  is done this way.
