I done some switching of barrels today on one of my M16A1 builds, took a C MP C off, put a C MP CHROME BORE barrel back on to make the build correct. In doing so I noticed this stamping (in the pic below) on the C MP CHROME BORE barrel. It is the # 22 directly behind the hand guard retaining cap TDC of the barrel. I looked through Ekie's Colt M16 series variation guide & only come up with this "Starting as early as 1989 a single or two digit code by the front sight base is used, this one marked 28. Not sure of the meaning, maybe a lot code?", but that is off a Govt. profile barrel. (Or am I mistaking the profile of the barrel in Ekie's guide?) My barrel is the lightweight A1 profile.

Anybody ever notice a like marking on their A1 C MP CHROME BORE barrels? I checked my other C MP CHROME BORE barrels & neither one had it. Do you suppose my barrel is a very late C MP CHROME BORE barrel?

Never mind, I just read further in Ekie's guide & it looks like this barrel is a "late replacement M16A1 barrel", cause it has the "O" (just noticed it after looking the barrel over again) & the jibberish on the FSB. It has a square sight post too, instead of a round one.

While still not 100% correct for my M16A1 build it is a lot closer than the C MP C barrel I just took off.

None of mine had a number stamping.  Probably will shoot real nice.  Had me removing HG's.
