Im on my 2nd barrel nut wrench and im getting sick of the results.  Ive rounded, broken teeth of and destroyed a handful of barrel nuts from different manufacturers.   Sherluck Ar wrench that widens out when try and use it, and (if I remember correctly) a Blackhawk wrench that likes to round teeth over.

So..  anyone making an actual barrel nut socket for the standard AR barrel nut?

I have a Spikes Barrel Nut Wrench and it is excellent!

I have the DPMS powder coated armorers wrench.  I found that I had to use a mallet to get it fulled seated onto the barrel nut and then.  I tried one time and found out the hard way it wasn't seated all the way.  knuckle carnage.  no real damage to the barrel nut though.

I bought a $25 dollar no name armorers wrench off ebay. I put enough pressure on the barrel nut to break a cutting board used as a vice and cracked my receiver....wrench is fine though. I wish the wrench would have broke. Did you try getting a $10 torch at lowes and heating the barrel nut before taking it off. It solved my issues.

This is the one I have.

It's on this page

Armorer's Barrel Wrench

It's 12 bucks and works great.  I've used it several times on my ARs and built 3 for my brother and 2 for a buddy without ever rounding off a nut.  One thing I'm always careful about is when you're dealing with a delta ring make sure keep pressure toward the receiver.  The spring pressure of the delta ring can cause the wrench to slip off of the nut.

I will second the $12 from Bushmaster.   Works great but won't work on bull barrels though.

I have that same one never any problems other than I had to make the front suppressor slot alittle bigger since the plating made a hair to small to grab some flash suppressors.... Hummm you must have a strong hand... I never go beyond 60 Lbs unless I really have tooooo..

GI wrenches work just fine for me.  I modded one with longer pins for recessed barrel nuts used on some FF handguards.  These work just fine.

I use the DPMS multi. Has assembled dozens of uppers over the years. Just make sure it's seated properly.

thanks guys.  those options are exactly what Im looking for.

Im liking that spikes one.  Machined is the way to go.  Forged seems to flex WAY to much!

I have a cheap powder coat wrench that engages about 75% or the teeth, but you have to put pressure against the weld spring to keep it in place.  Worst I have is it removed some park from the teeth.  Three pins made me nervous when I had to put that much torque on them so I used the sprocket side.

PRI 5 pin is what I use. Attaches via 3/8" or 1/2" drive torque wrench.

About $25. Less if you're lucky

Used to install USGI, YHM, JP/Vtac, Troy TRX and no issues with any of them.

A fine tool, but not FSB friendly.
