| I am working on my first ground up build. I have my lower done, now I am getting ready to buy parts for the upper. I think I have all of my parts picked out except the barrel. I want a 14.5" standard profile middy. I have heard good things about DD tubes, but they seem to be forever backordered. I noticed on the BCM site, they have a hammer forged barrel that seems to be very comparable to the DD one for $299. And it's in stock! I looked at the Noveske tubes, but I don't wanna spend quite that much, but I do want a good quality barrel. I am looking for advice! Is the BCM a good choice, or are there others I should be considering? |

Take a look at this, it's only 7 oz. heavier (you can make some of that up with an AL gas block), costs $31 less and it's a SS match barrel;
http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=2905 Don't like silver then well; Micro Slick You can also save weight with these (they weigh about 6 oz. max) for a FF HG not a lot of $ either; http://www.apcustomusa.com/ar15.html |
| These are just as good as DD and BCM, you can use the ARFCOM code when you check out for 5% off as well. |

Is the BCM a good choice, or are there others I should be considering? Just get the regular BCM barrel. I just bought one for $239. There is nothing wrong with a non-hammer forged barrel. They have been around for 40 + years and there are a lot of satisfied users. Hammer forged barrels will not benefit the average shooter that will only put a few k shots through the barrel in their lifetime. If you do shoot it out, just by a new one a couple of years down the road. |
