I am putting together an AR (Vltor upper, BCG to be decided) and looking for a good quality barrel recommendation. I will be shooting 3 gun 90% of the time and most shots will max out at 200 to 300 yards.  The majortiy of shots will range from 35 yards to 150 yards.  I'm considering a 16" barrel (I've not had a problem with the carbine length gas system) but now considering a 17" or 18" barrel because of the rifle length gas system. Plus a Bennie Cooley brake. Since this would be a high round count gun a chromed lined barrel seems the way to go and I'm trying to figure out who's barrel to go with.  (No flaming of industry supporters).  I've got a few ideas such as CMMG, AR15 barrels, etc.....

If money isn't a concern, here's the ultimate answer to your question;

Other than that, have you considered a mid-length 16" chromed barrel from Armalite?

It's only $200 bones, uses a mid-length gas system, comes with a removable gas block, and rumor has it that Armalite's chromed barrels are some of the most accurate because Armalite laps their barrels before the chroming process.

From Armalite's technical library

ArmaLite uses lapped barrels for both match and standard, chromed barrels.  The benefit of lapping match barrels has already been addressed.  Barrels to be chromed benefit from lapping too.  Chrome deposits more evenly on smooth barrels.  Since chroming tends to reduce accuracy, it makes sense to start with a lapped, accurate barrel before lapping to assure that the resulting chromed barrel is as accurate as possible.

Thanks.........I've never considered Armalite but will do some reading.  The Noveske is a little to rich for my taste.  Any others??

a sabre defense 18" spr vanadium barrel would be my first choice.  dennys operator, may be shorter than you want though.  cmmg m18 spr would be decent too.
