I've been looking around, and almost every auto parts place that has moly grease, the grease also contains lithium. I could have sworn that someone said that lithium based greases will react with aluminum in a bad way. So, my question(s) is this. Is a lithium based moly grease bad for barrel installation? Also, what local area shops had the barrel grease that you use? (I want to do a barrel install without having to make yet another online purchase.) Thanks. |

I'm not sure where you heard that, but it is not true. Lithium greases have been used in aviation for a long time (i have been doing it for 15 years), if there was an issue, we would not be allowed to use it (since most aircraft are made of aluminum). So pick up that Moly at the auto parts and use it. Just a little at the start of the threads is fine.............no need to coat the whole thing. Have fun. Edit for spelling. |

Li soap base is fine for Al. Graphite in the antisezie should be ok as there is way more al than graphite, From what I found on Al engine heads and nickle coatted spark plugs. was that there was no worry of glavanic recation because of the al being so much more massive than the anti seize being used. wikepidea (big spell bobo) has more info. |

So this is the stuff I ended up using. Moly-Fortified Multi-Purpose Grease/Ford Hopefully that should work, right? |
Ahh......an ode to lubrication. It will work splendidly. |
