I am building my first AR-15 and I am trying to decide on a barrel. I want a 20" heavy barrel and I am having some trouble finding a barrel (mainly due to barrels being in stock). Although, I have some confusion over barrel types. There is a 223, 223 Wylde and 5.56 NATO. So, please, someone tell me the difference. Also, barrel recommendations are accepted.

Has anyone tried any barrels from Anderson Manufacturing?

In order of most accurate to least: Wylde>223>556
In order of most compatible to least: 556>Wylde>223

Basically, .223 is the original Remington commercial spec chambering, 5.56 is the Mil. spec chambering, and .223 Wylde is a "get both" chambering that attempts to allow for higher Mil. spec pressures while keeping the .223 accuracy.  Most varmit/bull barrels will be chambered in .223 Wylde and most regular AR barrels will have 5.56 chambers; the .223 chambering has sort of fallen out of favor, so you won't find it widely available.

As for a heavy profile 20", that has also fallen out of favor, so you will be hard pressed to find them available as well.  You might want to try JSE Surplus.
