| What is the current issue bayonet for US force and will go on my pre-ban AR-15? |
Just buy surplus M8. you can get them for about $30 www.cheaperthandirt.con bayonet ![]() The M8s fit the Ar15/M16 just fine and don't cosst an arm and a leg like the M9. Unless you just MUST have the wire cutters.... |
You'll only have half the blade sticking out. For XM177 clones and M4s you need this. I bought one for my XM177 clone, expensive, but worth it. (has extension in handle. SOLINGEN steel Germany, Colt brand, very nice! Colt 16" bayonet at prebanarms.com

I do. I just like to have full functionality. (especially since FeinSwine says we can't have it). |

I've never personally seen an M9 bayonet. I've seen numerous M7s--pretty sure that was the designation, anyway--in person, and I've seen a lot of photos of the new M10 Ka-Bar/bayonet, but, stunningly, never an M9. The photos I've seen make it look a bit...Rambo-y for my tastes, though. |
I thought that was an M7 bayonet with an M8 scabbard. Am I off? |
No, you're not off. The original M16 bayonet was the M7, which has the traditional bayonet blade like M1 and M14 bayonets. In the 80's, the M9 bayonet was released, which has a heavy "survival knife" style blade. It was originally designed and made by Buck, but the military allowed the design to be modified/simplified and other manufacturers to bid in order to get the price down. The scabbard that fits all of the bayonets from the M2-M7 is the M8 or M8A1 scabbard. There is also a newer, cheapie scabbard for commercial M7 bayonets. BTW, the best quality M7 bayonets available are the ones made in Solingen, Germany. They will be all black and have the Colt logo, but aren't made in the US, and aren't considered collectors items (and Colt buffs will scoff), but they are built better than any M7 made in the US. -Troy |
Thats the same type upper I have. Where can I find the M9 with the extension? |
Haven't seen any M9 extended, only the M7 extended, at preban arms. |
A clamp-on lug? Not sure I'd trust that to be anything other than a display. For serious use, I'd feel better if the lug was pinned to the barrel (via the FSB). |
