| I found this today while going through a box of junk. It's a Beeman SS2 Blue Ribbon 3X21 Short Scope. Anyone know anything about it? It has a base for an AR. |
To my mind Beeman is associated with Air rifles, now maybe they made some centerfire based optics, but my first thought would be to check with Beeman and see if it was indeed for an air rifle. That is not to say it would work for a 223 or maybe some variants... but it would certainly NOT be my first choice. |

The BEEMAN SS-1, SS-2, and SS-3 scopes were made by HAKKO in Japan for Beeman Air Rifles. Once upon a time, when I was stationed at Mare Island CA, I used to visit Beeman back when they had their headquarters in Santa Rosa. I remember admiring a SS-2 and Robert Beeman explaining that he had designed the scope to withstand the beating that optics take from magnum spring air rifles (the vibration of the mainspring was notorious for breaking optic lenses from the mounting rings in the scope tubes). He mentioned that as a result of the built in durability they were becoming popular on AR-15 type rifles. This was back in the late 80's, so it doesn't surprise me that some folks continue to use them. Hope that helps. |
| I have one though I haven't used it enough to give a real review. I do know that the local sheriff's dept SWAT team (a very good one) used a few on their HK53s at one point. Don't know if they still do. They do seem like solid scopes. FWIW, the one I have had a problem with the elevation adjustment from the previous owner and Beeman repaired it a year or so ago. So warranty service should be available. |
