| My 10 yr old daughter loves shootin my Savage 10FP 308 at the 500 yrd gongs and hits every time untill about the 10th rnd then the recoil gets the best of her, i ended up buyin her a Savage 10FP 223 and she hits the gongs repeatedly all day long and loves it. I also do 1/2 mile shootin but with 223 what grain/brand should she use? I hear BH is best but school me on what is best. She just got the rifle 2 days ago and has been out shootin it in the back yard every day, gave her a ammo can with 1,500 rnds S&B 223 with the rifle as a early BD present, brings tears to my eyes to see her out back shootin and hittin the targets every shot! All that shes been shootin is 55 gr so far. |

I would think something like BH 75gr hpbt would be good, but be sure of your twist rate. From what I understand, the heavier OTM rounds are better for long range. EDIT: check out the ammo-oracle and the ammo FAQ at the top of the ammo page. Maybe think about loading your own, might be more times for you and your daughter to spend together. |

OK, its 1:9 twist on my savage. With S&B 55 gr FMJ 223 im holding 1" groups, havent tried anything else in the gun. Is there any rnds i dont want to run threw this gun due to the fact the jackets are rough on the barrel? I shoot anything and everything threw the AR's and M16 cause i dont care about the barrels but this thing i want to be able to keep it accurate. Wolf, Millitary surplus or anything else i need to worry about wearin out the barrel? Yes i know i said wolf in a paragraph about accuracy, im gonna find out just how inacurate this stuff really is if its not bad on the barrel....just for shits and grins. |
