I'm thinking of getting an M4 type AR-15 in the near future and am wondering how the various brands compare. I've looked at Bushmaster, RRA, and DPMS so far. They all seemed to be about the same quality. Are there any brands to avoid ?? BTW, I'm looking for a complete rifle, not a parts gun. Thanks |

The Colt 6920 Law Enforcement Carbine is the closest thing available to a real M4A1. www.knesekguns.com has them for sale in the $1200 range. LMT comes close for a little less money. If the budget is a concern, Armalite, Bushmaster, RRA, DPMS and a host of smaller outfits turn out M4s of the same quality as eachother, only differentiated by their feature set. ArmaLite, BM, RRA, DPMS, etc. cut corners on manufacturing and assembly to save money; it all depends on your budget and how you're going to employ the weapon. For home defense, definitely go with Colt (or LMT). For a range/plinking gun, anything else will do nicely. Brewer |

OK! To answer your question, you'll be happy with just about any off-the-shelf AR type rifle. Most companies make a solid, competitive product. They have to, or they'd go out of business rather quickly. Of the 3 you listed, the differences aren't big enough to warrant major bias. My personal favorite is Bushmaster but that doesn't mean I wouldn't be 100% satisfied with other rifles. Pick any of the three you listed. I promise you, you'll enjoy many years of solid performance. |
