| I have used open sites for years or just a regular scope. Well my Twin boys conviced me to buy some red dot optics which seem quite pricey. What would be a good medium price for a Red Dot ? I am assuming listening to my boys that is the kind of site that most people use. We own a cattle ranch and the only hunting we do is Hogs because they tear up our pastures so bad. Any thoughts and to show how old I am, I have been shooting a 1970 single shot 22 Remington for 45 years and collect WW11 rifles. |

You could try Primary Arms.

Vortex makes some great optics that are not to expencive. Strikefires run about $150

Depends on the distance you are shooting. Over 100 yards, my old eyes need a scope. But I do have a Aimpoint Pro on my hog rifle (308 AR). PSA sells the Pro which includes the mount for $410. You can leave it on for 3 years before the battery will need to replaced. I hope your using one of you WWII rifles for the hogs!

> What would be a good medium price for a Red Dot ? I would say $200 for a mid-range price. In that area, if you're looking for sleek and simple, the Burris FastFire II is a good choice. http://www.opticsplanet.net/burris-fastfire-w-picatinny-mount-4-moa-dot-mat-fastfire-sight.html It is very similar to the Leupold Deltapoint, at about half the price. Another bonus of the Burris is that they sell firearm-specific mounts individually, where Leupold requires that you purchase a "kit" of mounts, for firearms you may not own in addition to the one you need. Not sure what firearm you're using, but I go back and forth between the FastFire and my EOTech 512. Like them both. This being ar15.com, I'll mention that my FastFire II rides on this, and provides an absolute co-witness: ![]() http://www.opticsplanet.net/burris-ar-f3-ar-tactical-flat-top-fastfire-mount.html Please note that Burris has announced a new FastFire, the FastFire III at the 2012 SHOT Show. It has three preset brightness levels, as well as an auto-adjusting setting. the Current FastFire II has only the auto-adjust setting. the FastFire III's batter can be changed without removing the optic - the II must be removed for battery changes. Burris says the III will be compatible with any mount for the II. If you're thinking about Vortex, besides the Strikfire, Vortex makes the Sparc: ![]() http://www.opticsplanet.net/vortex-sparc-red-dot-sight-sprc.html Excellent product for the price, as it includes a screw-in 2X magnifier, mounts and a bikini cover. Here's the review on ar15.com that talked me into mine: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_2_277/187104_.ht Mark H. |
| I have a handful of scopes and red dots. The common theme that everyone will always agreee on is when it comes to glass (optics) you get what you pay for with few exceptions. that said I am really really happy with my burris fastfire. There are a few ergonomic drawbacks as far as making adjustments, but it performs very very well for the price. |
