Hey gang,
Can anyone tell me which would be the best powder to use for reloading a 6.8 SPC. I have Hornady 110 V-Max bullets and my rifle has a mid-length 14.5" barrel. Thanks |

AA2200 is considered the best by most of the 6.8 community.
There are several powders that are good with different weight bullets, but AA2200 seems to do the best with a wide range of bullet weights. Others.... Reloader 10x (heavy bullets 100+) Reloader 7 (lighter bullets 85-100) H322 - (good accuracy but not great speed) Hope this helps |

68forums has a great reloading section.
The load tables ofver there use a wide variety of powders. My choices H322 used to be the standard, AA2200 has replaced it as the universal powder. When I use up all of my 322 I'll make the switch. For the 85-90 grain bullets Rel7 or H4198 gives more velocity. |

I have used H332, R10X, and AA2200 with the Hornady 110 HPBT. My 2 favorite loads have been:
110 Hornady HPBT SSA and Rem brass CCI 400 or 450 27.0 gr Reloader 10X 2.275 OAL 2575 fps (18" CL Stainless barrel) This is a very mild load with good accuracy out to 600 yds for target shooting. 110 Hornady HPBT SSA brass Wolf SRM 28.5 gr AA2200 2.275 OAL Accurate Arms lists this load at around 2650 out of a 20" barrel. I haven't been able to chrono it, but it sure seems accurate. As usual, please start 10% under, and work your way up watching for pressure signs. |

AA2200 is considered the best. RE7 is really good for 85-90/95 gr. 10x & H322 is really good for 95 -120 gr. RE 10 being a little faster. The AA2200 is said to be faster & more accurate overall. PP 1200-r is up & coming, only a little testing done so far.
Check out the 68forum for more info. |
| I've just started loading the 6.8. Tried AA2200 with Hornady 110 grain Vmax and HPBT bullets. Accuracy was so-so. I next tried H322 with the same bullets. Accuracy was much better. Consistent sub-moa groups with several under .5 inch. I'll run some over the chronograph when the weather improves. |

I just looked at a bunch of loads for the 6.8, and H-322 was very popular.
I looked in my Hornady 8th Edition Reloading Manual, and noticed that A-1680 produced 100fps faster velocities with 100gr & 110gr pills than H 322. For example: 100gr Hornady SP .307 BC Hornady Brass CCI 41 SRP A 1680 24.6gr 16" Barrel DPMS AR15 2600fps 28.3gr of H 322 maxed out at 2500fps from the same gun. 110gr Hornady VMAX .370 BC A 1680 25.7gr 2600fps H 322 28.1gr 2500fps |

What pressure limitations was Hornady using, does anyone know? Is that with a SAAMI chamber in the DPMS? Don't know about the load you posted. $(*@^ I just pulled up my reference material. This is what I get for not checking my sources. You were right, the Hornady maxes the load at 28.1gr H322 in the DPMS 16" barrel 1:10 twist. The load I was thinking of (and using) is from Hodgon. 110gr Hornady VMAX - 29.0Cgr, 2697fps @ 53,600PSI Case: Remmington, Primer: Remington 9 1/2, Barrel Length 24" 1:10 twist rate, COAL 2.260. For what it's worth - with that exact same load in a 16" 1:10 barrel produced a MV of 2546 fps (which is identical to the Factory Hornady 110gr loads). The loads listed from Accurate ( from a 20" 1:10 twist barrel Win WLR primer, 2.26" COAL) 110gr Hornady OTM 28.6gr AA220, 2685 fps @ 57,899 PSI 110gr Hornady VMAX 28.6gr, 2711 fps @ 57,995 PSI Tough to compare as the Hodgon uses a longer barrel (useless with the 6.8) and a lower max pressure. From the factory data they dont' seem that far off. Also, there is no AA1680 loads in 6.8 listed from Accurate? Is this powder still available? For such a performer in Hornady's tes data I'd expect to see somthing in the factory data. Interesting thing to note on the Hornady Data - they list a COAL of 2.245" for their 100 & 110gr loads - which is SHORT for this round, that would certainly reduce powder capacity. |

I looked through the PDF on 6.8forums, and didn't see any data for AA 1680 either.
It happens. Hodgdon's doesn't have any data for CFE223 in the Grendel, but Hornady does in their new 9th Edition (123gr AMAX or SST at 2500fps from 18" barrel). It's very similar to Leverevolution, which was meant for the .30-30 Winchester. I think some guys have even called Hodgdon's up and asked what loads they recommend for the Grendel with CFE223, and they said they didn't, even though it's turning out to be an ideal powder for the cartridge. With Hodgdon's being such a popular powder company, I can understand that they don't have data for everything, especially these relatively new cartridges. I just checked Accurate's site, and they list 1680 as: Accurate 1680 is an extremely fast burning, double-base, spherical rifle powder that is well suited for large capacity, high performance handgun cartridges such as the 454 Casull, 460 S&W and 500 S&W. 1680 is also an excellent choice for the 22 Hornet and 7.62 x 39, as well as other low capacity rifle cartridges. Made in the USA.

Accurate Powders I saw that, and thought" hmm doesn't that fit the 6.x class cartridges as well"? But I also noticed it was 'dimmed' compared to the other listed powders - which is why I'm wondering if it's still offered. |
