Last weekend I bought what I thought were NIW pre-ban 30rd Colt mags at the Tulsa gun show, from one of those dealers that had about 30 tables of nothing but mags. They had a 30rd pre-ban Colt mag on display w/colt baseplate that looked to be high-quality. They wanted $23 each. I bought 5 for $18 each, which I thought was a good enough price, I got 5 NIW w/colt baseplates and marked Colt AR-15/M-16 on the sealed wrapper. I opened them up tonight to load them up, they're the biggest piece of shit mags I've ever seen! The followers hang up, you can squeeze the lips together with your fingers, looks like they're pressed together and spot welded crooked, and I couldn't even load & unload them by hand without them hanging up. Never-the-less I'm pissed-off! MY BADD, but I'm still pissed! Just thought I'd pass this along.

They sound like the same cheap mags I have seen at the gunshows around here. The floorplates read Colt AR15/M16. Is this the floorplates you have on your mags? Those aren't Colt floorplates, just floorplates that designate that the mags will work in an AR15.

If they have actual Colt floorplates, then the seller is definitely screwing people over IMO.

Nope, I'm a dope! Nothing but a sticker saying "Colt AR-15/M-16 30rd." I've never bought Colt mags NIW before, but these did look like my other Colt mags, same gray parkerized finish, same baseplates. I didn't even think about the wrapper not having any "authentic" Colt markings or gov't contract markings. Oh well! Fool me once, shame on you! Fool me twice, shame on me!

Sorry about your bad luck.  Its a shame people have to rip people off to get money.

I made a mistake when I bought 2 USA mags. Thank god it was only 2.

I used them once and tossed them out.

Look at it this way, it's a learning curve. You won't make that mistake again.

That was quite a gun show wasn't it. I was impressed by the amount of dealers. Sorry to hear about your bad luck, I had a little there myself but I have got it resolved.

SLYHUNTR

It was a great show! There's a Sooner gunshow coming up Labor Day weekend, same building, top floor only. It's a nice show also. The 4 big Tulsa shows are about the only ones I go to anymore, and I live 1.5 hrs. s-west of OKC. That should tell you something about the Tulsa shows.

FWIW I have new colt USGI magazines as well as almost every other manufacturers. Even though they are aluminum I can squeeze them together at the middle of the magazine. There isent anything to support the center of the magazine so that can be expected.

The rounds loaded into the mag do get hung up on the front of the magazine when you try to push them out. Thats because the neck of the brass case is larger diameter than the bullet and it gets caught on the squair edge on the front of the magazine.

That wont effect the functioning of your weapon at all. You just need to give them some wear and tear by using them or if it bugs you that much file/sand down the inside squair edge. Dont file the whole front of the mag down or the nose of the bullet wont hit the feed ramps on the barrel extencion and go into the chamber.

The followers getting hung up... I dunno need more info.
Welded crooked. maybe cooper mags with colt floor plates?

JustLOOking, these (Colts) are very soft, my LaBelles & OK mags won't squeeze together unless you squeezed pretty hard. The Colts don't take much at all, which isn't that big of deal, but 2 of them won't even fit in my gun, 1 fits but is very tight, 1 fits good but won't seat or latch and the 1 mag that does fit won't feed but 3-4 rds in a row without hanging up. I think they're just some cheap-ass mags with some Colt baseplates. Oh-well, shit happens!

Sound like USA mag bodies.

Maybe you could hit the next gunshow in the area and find the guy, get a refund. Likely he'll be selling at other shows in the area.
