I just came from shooting my Colt style 9mm ar15.  The rounds I brought to fire were CCI Blazer 115 grain FMJ.  These rounds malfunctioned almost every five to seven shots.  I was so worried about the malfunctions I thought it could have been my weapon.  Therefore, I purchchased 100 Winchester 115 grain hollow from the range.  These rounds functioned flawlessly.  Whatever you do, do not purchase CCi Blazer ammunition.

Aluminum cased ammo (i.e. CCI Blazer) should NEVER be used in a blowback longarm!  The aluminum cannot handle the presures/forces generated by the blowback action, and often the cases will get torn apart when extracted (the rim gives out and the extractor tears a chunk of it away).

IIRC it even says on the CCI pakcaging not to use it in subguns.  However, the stuff works beautifully in pistols- I feed my 1911 a steady diet and it shoots great with it.

CCI is starting to make bras cased Blazer ammo, which might work better.  But stick to the Winchester White BOx, as I have never heard of a subgun that wouldn't feed that stuff!

While not exactly an AR platform , My CX4 eats and spits out aluminum
cased blazer just fine , and its a blowback design .

It is not to be used in OPEN bolt subguns.

Odd, the MP-40 is the only gun that I have that will eat Blazer.  I won't ever buy it again, but it went through it like candy.

I agree, Blazer is trash.

My 6450 eats it all day long.  Dirty, but easy to shoot in my experience.  Have not tried the brass cased CCI yet.

Thank you for the correction, my bad.  However it still does not seem to work well with many closed bolt subguns, and IMHO I would not feed it to my 9mm AR or Uzi.  YMMV.

Why would it matter whether the subgun is open or closed bolt?  In either case, the extraction/ejection process is going to be the same.

Not true.  An open bolt subgun will in most cases ignite the primer before the bolt is fully closed.  For example, the well known M3 has a fixed firing pin which will strike the primer before the gun is fully in battery, so the case has to put up with a lot of pressure without being fully supported by the chamber.  The Sterling and STEN are built similarly-all of these are open bolt guns.  The MP5, on the other hand, fires from a closed bolt.  The round is fed and the bolt fully closed before the hammer can be released, so the firing pin can't do anything to the primer until everything is closed, the case is fully supported before it's fired, and the pressure levels aren't a problem.

Open bolt SMGs need good brass or steel cased ammunition, while closed bolt guns can handle aluminum cases without too much problem-at least from this source.

I don't have any experience with firing aluminum case Blazers in a subgun, but I did fire a box of it through a TEC-9 (worst purchase I ever made, then I sold it before Sarah Brady drove the price up by calling it evil).  It fires from a closed bolt, but is a simple blowback action.  Each of the aluminum cases were bulged on the rear quarter of the sides.  Apparently, the aluminum case can't handle the internal pressure that's still in the case as the bolt starts to extract it.   I never had any brass cased ammo do that in the TEC-9.

Aluminum cased Blazers do just fine in my 1911 and Taurus 911, but they use locked breaches.
