I was looking into getting some Blackhills Blue Box couldnt decide on 69 mk, or 75mk or 77mk. Which is the better defense long range round? I'm looking for something close to my M262 so I dont have to shoot it up and can keep it for shtf. Thanks, Mike |

My personal suggestion is BH 75 grain which is a Hornady OTM bullet. If you have a 1:9 twist barrel you may have to test it first to see if your rifle likes it. I think the 68 grain is also a Hornady OTM with the 69 grain being SMK. If I'm not mistaken, the only thing close to MK262 Mod1 would be Hornady 5.56 75 grain TAP. If I got the 68/69 grain backwards I'm sure someone will be along shortly with the correct info. |

I'm almost sure you're right on the 68 gr. being a Hornady OTM. I tried both the 68 and 75 gr. in my BM V-Match 16 in. w/1:9 and it didn't like the 75's near as much as the 68's. That being said.....other's have had just the opposite results. Each rifle/barrel is different even with the same twists. As always.....buy a box or three of different weights and let the rifle tell you your answer. The difference in the weight from 68 to 75 or 77 grains, unlike in big game situations, will make less of a difference at any reasonable distances. 2 legged critter weights don't vary nearly as much as say a deer to an elk and so forth. Accuracy and consistancy should be the top priority. |
