OK, now I'm totally confused. I've been reading past threads in the Archive about bolt/carrier groups. The consensus seems to be that one should not switch bolt/carriers between rifles because the bolt "wears in" with a particular rifle. However, I also see recommendations to buy an extra bolt to keep on hand for when TSHTF or whatever. My question is, if I buy a spare bolt and my current bolt eventually fails, would it be safe to pop the new bolt in a rifle with a worn-in chamber? That seems to contradict all the former thinking on not switching bolts around: i.e.- the new bolt won't have "worn in" with my rifle. Am I totally misunderstanding all this? Thanks for any clarification you can give me.

It's fine from a wear on the locking lugs standpoint, but you should check headspace any time you mate a different bolt to your barrel.
