| If I wanted to find an original bolt catch for a colt kit, where would I find one? |
|
How old a kit?
The 601 had a unique catch, then there was the very rare "transitional," then they changed to the "modern" style. Unless you're cloning a very early rifle, you can use any modern catch. Even if you have a black one, a little toilet bowl cleaner or some naval jelly and you should be able to lighten the finish enough to look fine with a gray receiver. |

But I just got a new RRA kit and it had the regular style. |

Sorry I should have stated that.
The kit is from LG Outdoors. "vietnam era" http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_123/639123_Looking_for_A1_Parts_kits__Here_s_a_steal_.html |

As I mentioned earlier, take a black catch and hit it with some toilet bowl cleaner or naval jelly...maybe brush it gently with an old toothbrush...then rinse it clean. Take your time and repeat as necessary, but don't leave the stuff on for very long for any single 'treatment." It will lighten up with very little effort. The finish on some brands does come off much easier than others, so be careful--but it's pretty easy to accomplish. |
| Apexgunparts will have genuine Colt bolt catch from same de-mill kits. Will probably be priced not to sell. Not much difference as stated from a not genuine Colt and a genuine Colt except possibly a stamp that you can't see once installed. Not like Colt actually made their bolt catch's anyway. Good luck. |
